Currently, Kathy Bostjancic is the Director for Macroeconomic Analysis at The Conference Board, responsible for generating the U.S. economic forecast and contributing to a team that produces the global economic outlook. She oversees and participates regularly in The Conference Board Economics Watch monthly global/U.S. webcast series.  She authors the monthly Economics Watch U.S. View which features in-depth special topics. The macroeconomic topics span a variety of subjects ranging from global central bank monetary and fiscal policy to the U.S. housing market to the U.S. consumer balance sheet, consumer spending, global inflation and global labor markets, etc. Kathy has led a research-working group that instructed companies on how to improve their internal business forecasting. Kathy briefs member Fortune 500 firms and larger audiences on the global economic outlook and the impact it could have on their businesses.  Kathy is a top economics media spokesperson, appearing in print, television and radio. She is a regular guest on Bloomberg Radio and TV.  In addition to her responsibilities at the Conference Board, Kathy serves as a director and member of the launch team for The Demand Institute, which is a joint partnership between The Conference Board and Nielsen.  The Demand Institutes mission is to illuminate how consumer demand is evolving around the world. She is working with a team of economists from The Demand Institute on modeling dynamics of the U.S. housing at the national, state and MSA levels and providing projections spanning the next five years.

During her time at Merrill Lynch, as a Senior Director, U.S. Senior Economist, Kathy Bostjancic served as Vice Chairman of the Merrill Lynch Interest Rate Committee which correctly predicted aggressive Federal Reserve monetary policy easing in late 2007-2008. She served as the fixed-income trading desk economist providing analysis and direction for the fixed-income trading floor following the release of high-frequency economic data, news, and developments. She supported all fixed-income and equity businesses including institutional, middle markets and private client. Kathy was in high demand to deliver presentations on economic and financial market outlooks to the firm’s top clients in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. She authored in-depth high-quality research pieces on a wide range of timely topics. Highlights included: prescient analysis predicting the widening of the credit crisis beyond the subprime market; the implosion of the U.S. residential and nonresidential markets; the large negative impact of the credit turmoil on the economy, the banking system, Federal Reserve monetary policy, and the financial markets; and timely analysis of the Federal Reserve’s unconventional monetary policy actions and fiscal policy initiatives taken during the financial crisis.  Kathy demonstrated managerial leadership as second in seniority in the U.S. Economics group where her responsibilities included helping to manage a staff of five and assisting in overseeing the daily and weekly operations of the group.  Kathy was quoted frequently by Dow Jones News, Reuters, Bloomberg News, and Market News International financial newswires.
